When is Indonesian coffee harvested?
Indonesia harvests coffee somewhere across its islands almost every month of the year, so fresh-crop green coffee is available nearly year-round. The calendar runs in two broad waves: northern Sumatra (Aceh Gayo, Mandheling, and Lintong) picks from roughly October to March, while Java, Sulawesi, Bali, and Flores pick across the dry season from around April or May through October.
Because these windows overlap, roasters and importers can line up back-to-back fresh lots: contract Sumatra around November to January for February-to-June shipment, then target mid-year picking in Java, Sulawesi, and Bali for July-to-November arrivals. Buying just after a region's harvest is the single biggest lever for cup freshness and aromatic intensity.
Harvest dates shift by several weeks each year with rainfall and El Nino / La Nina cycles, so treat this calendar as indicative and confirm current cherry flow and a recent cupping score with your exporter before booking a container.
